Sodium thiocyanate is a white rhombic crystal (density 1.735, mp ~287 °C) soluble in water, ethanol and acetone. It decomposes on heat/light releasing toxic cyanide and oxide fumes, and reacts violently with acids, strong bases and oxidants.
